Fernando M. Martin
Macroeconomist and policy advisor whose work connects academic research with questions of monetary, fiscal and financial policy.
I am a Senior Economic Policy Advisor in the Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. My work combines academic research with policy analysis, with a particular emphasis on monetary and fiscal policy, inflation, sovereign debt and financial markets.
My research spans monetary economics; inflation; fiscal and monetary policy; central bank independence; sovereign debt and default; international economics; banking, financial markets and payment systems; and dynamic contracts and risk sharing.
My policy publications examine many of the same subjects for broader audiences, including the recent inflation experience, the interaction of fiscal and monetary policy, the Federal Reserve’s balance sheet, government debt, payment systems, cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance.
I received my Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Before joining the St. Louis Fed, I was a faculty member at Simon Fraser University and an economist at the Central Bank of Argentina. I have also taught at Washington University in St. Louis.
